Japanese researchers found lutein can prevent red blood cell senescence
The
scientists of Japanese Tohohu University Graduate School recently
said, they discovered that lutein enriched in green algae have effect
on preventing red blood cell senescence.
The scientists said, there are a great deal
of red cell senescence in Alzheimer’s disease patients’ blood, and
the accumulation of phospholipid peroxidation in erythrocytes is
the five or six times higher than healthy people. Accumulation of
peroxide phospholipid can cause patients’brain tissue chronic hypoxia,
and patients' condition worsen.
Japanese Yomiuri Shimbun reported that six
healthy volunteers taken about 10 mg tablet of lutein everyday,
after four consecutive weeks, the lutein in volunteers’ erythrocytes
increased to an average of 2.8 times than before, meanwhile, peroxide
phospholipid in erythrocytes decreased to one-third to the original
level.
